Quick Cake Decorating Trick

Want to go beyond just plain white icing? That is precisely what I wanted to do, except, I am not a master cake decorator and needed a simple technique. After some deliberation, I decided I would make a heart out of chocolate chips and accentuate with colorful sprinkles. I really wanted the heart to stand out. So, I gently placed a small bowl, upside down, in the center of the cake. I then went to town with the sprinkles. Once I was happy with the number of sprinkles, I carefully lifted the bowl off the cake. I created the outline of the heart first, then filled the center. I finished by wiping away extra icing and sprinkles around the cake plate. This technique turned out to be effortless and looks great. I am already thinking of other ways I can use this trick.
