I found myself one morning without any bread in the house with the request of french toast for breakfast. Lucky for me, I had some mini butter croissants from the bakery in the freezer. I let them slightly thaw as I collected the other ingredients and tools I would need. This dish turned out to be a big hit at the breakfast table and has been a repeat breakfast treat ever since.
First, a word of advice. After having made this dish several times, I have found that freezing the croissants actually makes it easier and faster to slice in preparation for dipping into the batter. Other than that, no major changes to traditional french toast.
What you will need…
- Mixing bowl
- Measuring cup
- Measuring spoons
- 4 mini croissants or 2 large croissants
- One egg
- One tsp. vanilla
- 1/4 cup of milk
- Butter (room temperature for easy spreading)
- Cinnamon (optional, add up to 1/2 tsp.)
Let’s get started…
Remove croissants from the freezer.
Heat griddle to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
Slice croissants down the middle lengthwise. Set aside and whisk together egg, vanilla, milk, and cinnamon (optional) in mixing bowl.
Grease griddle with butter, then dip slices of croissant into batter and place on the cooking surface. Cook till golden brown and flip. Repeat on other side. Then transfer to plate.
Drizzle with your favorite toppings and serve with a beverage of choice.
